Although many people say that Robin Hood never existed, his legend is very popular in England.
According to the myth, Robin Hood was a man who had courage chivalry and practice of robbing the rich to aid the poor. He lived beyond the law. The main enemies were corrupt officials and the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham.
He used a bow as a weapon. Also, He had a quick mind and a naughty sense of humor. His love was Maid Marian (or Marion).
In addition to this, he lived in Sherwood Forest and Barnsdale, in Yorkshire. He had a Band of Merry Men. They wore Lincoln clothes. Robin hunted and shared camaraderie with them.
Looking for information I realized that the original merry men included: Friar Tuck, Will Scarlet, Much the Miller Son, and the little John – who was called “little” because he wasn´t.
Robin Hood‘s story has been told in The gest of Robin Hood (1500). It is a ballad written in Middle English. Many portions of this tale have reappeared in later versions. Howard Pyle was one of the authors who retold the Robin Hood stories.
In addition to this, Robin is an English Legend based on a real historical character. This legend has been represented in literature, theatre, film and TV Shows. Many actors have played the people´s hero such as Kevin Costner. Some movies have taken a less serious look at the time-honoured tale, including a Walt Disney cartoon and a gangster musical.
